With the Corona-induced lockdown, exams, admissions, counselling, classes have all been postponed and everyday there are newer technologies, plans and ideas that people are coming up with in order to cope with these issues. Now, with the admissions to Arts and Science colleges also being pushed behind, students wanting to apply to 109 government colleges might have to ready themselves for online single window admission. Albeit, this is only a trial.

However, the Higher Education Department already proposed this idea last year but because they had to face many challenges like the abundance of courses, lack of hostel facilities, they could not start work on the project. But since the COVID-19 situation, the Department has decided to do a trial run in 109 colleges in 2020-2021.

According to a report in the Times of India, the team headed by commissioners of the Directorate of Technical Education has developed the software and handbook for students to choose and college that they want to apply to. This handbook will include names of courses, colleges, the number of seats available in each, availability of other facilities like hostels, labs  and so on.

Officials say though that unlike engineering colleges, doing online single window admissions for arts and science colleges is massively difficult. Since courses in engineering colleges is limited, only about 10 courses in a campus, courses in arts and science colleges go up to 100 per campus. Another challenge faced by officials is deciding the eligibility category.
