Citing the increase in the number of female MPs in the house, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that now the government's approach will be to go beyond women-centric policy making to setting up more women-led schemes.

"Naari tu Narayani is the country's tradition. There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly with one wing. This government believes that greater women participation is needed. Gramin Arthvyavastha (rural economy) encourages the role of women. The government believes social-economic transformation is taking place because of women participation in last one decade. We have a record 78 women in this house," said Nirmala Sitharaman, adding that one woman in every self-help group will be eligible for one lakh loan on Mudra.

She added that progress is only possible with greater women's participation in every aspect. "This government wishes to encourage and facilitate the role of women, I propose to form a committee with government and private stakeholders to form a strategy to move forward. There has been no segment where the contribution of women is not significant. Women's role and leadership in the government has been distinct. This year women voters have been at par with men," she said.
