In a tweet, a JNU professor who had previously been accused of Islamophobia, has now called for the public execution of 40 Kashmiris after the Pulwama attack. Amita Singh, professor of the Law and Governance blamed Mehbooba Mufti for the attack and demanded in a tweet that she "hand over 40 of her people" for public execution.
Singh challenged the former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to hand over the people for public execution if she "really feels hurt about the 40 soldiers who died." This is not the first time that the professor is making derogatory statements — only recently the Minorities Commission directed the JNU administration to conduct an inquiry against her for making Islamaphobic comments.
A few months ago, the JNUSU General Secretary, Aejaz Ahmad Rather had accused the professor of telling him and his friends that they looked like 'terrorists who triggered 10 bombs' and claimed they didn't seem like they were students from JNU. She has also demanded to see their ID cards which they refused to show since they knew they were not required to do so according to University rules. Aejaz had filed a complaint against the professor and had approached the Minorities Commission as well.
The Commission directed the administration to immediately conduct an inquiry for having subjected the student to abuse and Islamaphobic comments. At that point, Singh has denied the accusation.
On February 17, Singh had written on Twitter that the RDX vehicles could not be checked as three of the barriers set up for checking was removed by Mufti. She requested the Governor to 'reinstate everything removed by Mufti' and then went on to demand the public execution.
In an earlier tweet on February 13, she also demanded a 'surgical strike' in JNU and the immediate suspension of the JNUTA and the JNUSU. She also said she had suffered at the hands of the 'tukde tukde' gang, a name used by Hindu extremists to accuse JNU students of separatism.
Her latest tweet was against JNU student leader and scholar Shehla Rashid, who was slapped with an FIR for 'spreading rumours'. Shehla had tweeted about a group of Kashmiri students who were trapped in their hostel because a mob outside was demanding their expulsion. Responding to the incident, Singh tweeted, 'Hope this is just the beginning of expose. Many other FIRs are pending against this explosive hate machine disturbing social harmony in campuses yet moving Scot free everywhere! Time now....'
