Hot air balloon trip for students enroled as voters in Andhra Pradesh

The Election Commission of India (ECI) and Guntur district administration organised a hot air balloon trip on Tuesday for 20 of 50,000 students who got themselves enroled as voters recently. The officials selected the students at Police Parade grounds in Guntur by drawing lots for candidates weighing less than 70 kg.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEC)) of Andhra Pradesh RP Sisodia participated in the programme to encourage youth to enrol themselves as voters. At the occasion, he appreciated the efforts of the officials concerned in enroling 50,000 voters in a single day on Monday.

Youngsters of the biggest democracy in the world should exercise their right to vote and bring to power good leaders, he said. Voters should not get misguided by false promises and should be aware of their responsibility to give themselves a worthy representative, he added. Students could enrol themselves as voters at their nearest polling station or could do it online by the end of October. Observer of the enrolment process Piyush Kumar said the government will conduct a campaign for encouraging students to register as voters.

Guntur municipal commissioner, Srikesh B Lathkar, joint collector A Md Intiyez, urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao, DRO Srilatha were also present at the occasion.
