18-year-old NEET student from Visakhapatnam commits suicide
The teenager had joined the private NEET centre, three days before taking her own life. Police suspect that ragging at the hostel or academic pressure could have led to the extreme step
An 18-year old girl student of private NEET long-term coaching centre at Dwarakanagar, Visakhapatnam, committed suicide by hanging herself to ceiling fan on the campus hostel on Saturday. The incident took place between 7.30 am and 8 am and the reasons for it are yet to be ascertained. The girl has taken the extreme step just three days after joining the coaching centre.
The deceased has been identified as Marri Amrutha, a native of Gummalakshmipuram in Vizianagaram district.
According to police station inspector T Emmanuel Raju, students found the girl hanging from the ceiling fan of the hostel room and informed the police, soon after. The door, which was locked from the inside, was opened by the police in the presence of relatives. Cops didn't find any suicide note at the scene.
Emmanuel Raju said that Amurutha had passed her intermediate last year at Vizianagaram and was good in studies. She had joined the coaching centre three days ago and as per the other students, Amurutha was dull since she joined the coaching centre, did not move with classmates and used to be alone.
"We have to investigate the case from several aspects, including academic pressure or pressure from family over selection of career or any other reason behind the girl taking the extreme step," Emmanuel Raju said.
Sources said that Amrutha had spoken to her parents a few hours before her suicide and the police would investigate about it. Meanwhile, a few relatives of Amrutha alleged that ragging in the hostel or academic pressure might have led to the incident.
The police registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC (Suspicious Death) and shifted the body to King George Hospital for postmortem.
