To attract international students to Indian universities, The New Indian Express, with the support of MES Indian School, Doha conducted a Knowledge Fair on the school premises. The event, that will continue on December 29, was inaugurated by Hemant Kumar Dwivedi, First Secretary, Embassy of India to Qatar. He was accompanied by MC Mohammed, Senior Management Member, Governing Board, MES Indian School.

Addressing a group of teachers, parents and students, Dwivedi, in his inaugural speech said, "This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to get more insight into what the Indian education system is all about. When the world is making giant strides, we're also making strides and ensuring that we stand at par with global standards of education."

The city has a population of around 7 lakh Indians, with over 36,000 Indian school students. Every year, about 2,000 Indian students graduate from schools and a large majority prefer to pursue their higher education in India.

Talking about the need for expats to explore newer avenues for their children, Dwivedi added, "When I was a student, there were very few options available. Now the world has changed. We have a lot of engineers. Now, it is graduates in Humanities and other areas that are getting better job opportunities because of their ability to comprehend better. We don't just need a degree holder. We need a degree holder from a reputable institute. This kind of expo gives an insight into what to look out for."
