Following the complaints of emotional harassment and accepting money for issuing pre-dated PhD registration order raised by a research scholar against her guide, the members of Madurai Kamaraj University convener committee questioned Professor K Karnamaharajan and the girl student here on Saturday.

U Muthu, the research scholar at Centre for Film and Electronic Media Studies attached to MKU, filed the complaint to MKU Registrar V Chinniah, Principal Secretary of Tamil Nadu Higher Education Mangat Ram Sharma and Collector S Natarajan last week that Karnamaharajan, head of the department of Centre for Film and Electronic Media Studies, was emotionally harassing her for the past one year.

In her complaint, Muthu said that the professor had issued her a memo on Tuesday that warned her of action, citing her absence for a day. She claimed that the professor had also warned her that he would recommend for the cancellation of her PhD registration and had taken `2 lakh from her to issue pre-dated PhD registration order. She also alleged that the professor had made some comments with sexual overtures.

She urged the authorities that she had completed all the research work as per the UGC guidelines but her guide was deliberately delaying the process and was taking steps to cancel her research paper. She appealed the authorities concerned to look into the matter and take appropriate steps against the professor.

Speaking to Express, the research scholar Muthu said that she had conveyed everything to the convener committee members and did not want to comment on the issue.

However, Karnamaharajan termed the complaint raised baseless and said that he had treated the scholar as his own daughter and that she turned against him only after the professor issued the memo for the cancellation of her PhD registration.

"Anyway, I have clearly explained everything to the members of the internal complaints committee. Hereafter, I will think 200 times before admitting a female scholar," he added.
