Karnataka PU board to issue 44-page answer booklets to avoid misplacement of answer sheets
Last year, some of the answer sheets went missing and some were found with a different hand writing exposing malpractice
After students complained of parts of their answer sheets going missing in 2018, the Karnataka Pre University Education Department has decided to come out with a 44-page answer booklet. According to this new rule, the students will no longer be given additional answer sheets during the final exams. M Kanagavalli, Director of Department of Pre University Education, said that this is in tandem with practices adopted by universities and colleges in examinations, where additional answer sheets aren't given any more.
Now, the concern is about wastage of sheets in this 44-page booklet which had only 22 pages earlier. Kanagavalli said, "We have weighed the pros and cons before making the decision. As many as 1 lakh students had applied for revaluation in 2018, and a single booklet can make a huge difference logistically. The concept of one booklet and no additional answer sheet has been mooted for a while at the departmental level, and only ten days ago, the government gave its approval. It will also save time while scanning the answer sheets."
She added that the single booklet concept will also help during evaluations and revaluations, as otherwise the papers are usually removed from the cover and then put back after checking, leaving a chance for some papers to go missing because of the loose threads that tie the additional sheet. Not just the complaints on missing sheets, it has been reported that some extra sheets would emerge at a later stage with a different handwritings, indicating malpractice.
