School Education Department, Eco club Coimbatore district coordinator G Logammbal said, "In last year, we have planted 10,000 saplings in the schools, in view of world environment day. This year, the district school education department along with the Mahilam foundation will plant one lakh plants across the district. This time, we will hand over saplings to the students and they should plant them in their school campus and villages or residents like neem, beech tree, Peepal tree and other two varieties. With this, we will provide the cages to schools, to maintain the saplings. Similarly, we will plant the sapling in 2012 all government and private schools which are functioning in Coimbatore district, within six months."

"For this, we will select the interested students from all government and private schools to plant the saplings. Apart from, students have to maintain the saplings until its growth. To monitor this, we will appoint another two students in the same schools. If a student does not maintain saplings properly, the monitoring students will inform the school headmasters. Through these activities, students will get awareness about the environment, the importance of the growing tree, etc. For this, now the Eco club staffs are selecting the teachers from all types of schools in a block-wise to coordinate saplings planting works in the schools and outside. We have started a Whatsapp group at each block, to monitor this work," she added.
