Students of East, West Godavari in Visakhapatnam shine in POLYCET 2018

East and West Godavari students have come out with flying colours in the Polytechnic Common Entrance Test (POLYCET 2018) for admission into various Polytechnic colleges in the State. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao announced the results in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Out of 1,29,412 candidates, who appeared in the exam, 1,03,775 candidates passed, the pass percentage is 89.19.

Candidates from East Godavari, Rajhamahendravaram, West Godavari and Srikakulam districts have shared among themselves the top ten ranks, sources said. While C Geetha Soumya of East Godavari came first, K Sai Sri Harsha of Rajmahendravaram and P Srikar Babu of West Godavari bagged the second and the third positions respectively. Going by gender while, 69,277 boys out of 88,637, who appeared in the exam passed, 34,498 girls qualified out of 40,775, who sat for the test.

With minimum marks required to qualify being 36 for all categories, except for SC/ST, the candidates who got that or more marks were qualified and assigned ranks based on their score. If two candidates scored the same marks, the student who secured more marks in Mathematics was considered first and if it was still a tie, the marks of Physics were considered to decide on the rank. "The admissions have increased by 20,000 this year. With special drives taken for the students of Class X, there has been an increase of 15,000 registered candidates," the minister said.

There are in all 75,971 seats available in the 80 government and 208 private colleges with approval across the state. While there are 15,455 seats in the government colleges, there are 60,512 seats in the private colleges. However, the seats in the colleges have decreased from 79,632 in 2017 to 75,971 this year.

Admissions will begin from May 17 and classes from June 12. Candidates are asked to attend the certificate verification procedure as per schedule. In case they fail to attend it as per schedule, they will become ineligible for admissions.
