Born on May 14, 1657, Sambhaji Maharaj was the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sai Bai. From childhood, he was trained in warfare, administration, and multiple languages.
Sambhaji Maharaj was not only a warrior but also a learned scholar. He knew several languages including Sanskrit and Persian, and authored the famous Sanskrit work “Budhbhushanam.”
After the death of Shivaji Maharaj in 1680, Sambhaji Maharaj became the ruler of the Maratha Empire. He took charge during a period of intense political and military challenges.
Sambhaji Maharaj fought many battles against the Mughal Empire, Portuguese forces, and other rivals. His military strength and fearless attitude protected the Maratha kingdom for years.
He strongly resisted Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s attempts to capture the Maratha Empire. Sambhaji Maharaj’s determination became a symbol of Maratha pride and resistance.
In 1689, Sambhaji Maharaj was captured by Mughal forces. Despite severe torture, he refused to surrender his beliefs or kingdom, becoming a symbol of bravery and sacrifice.
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is remembered as a courageous ruler who defended Swarajya with unmatched valor. His life continues to inspire millions across India even today.
