Celebrating World Soil Day

In order to increase awareness of the significance of healthy soil for food, water, and life on Earth, World Soil Day is observed annually. It draws attention to the increasing need for soil resource protection on a global scale and motivates people to adopt sustainable practices.
Soil stores water, filters pollutants, supports biodiversity, and supplies vital nutrients for crops. It combats climate change by acting as a natural carbon sink. Food security, the availability of clean water, environmental balance, and general human well-being are all directly impacted by healthy soils.
Erosion, pollution, overfarming, construction, and climate change have already caused one-third of the world's soil to deteriorate. In addition to endangering the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on agriculture and natural resources, this crisis has the potential to disrupt global food production, lower water quality, destroy habitats, and more.
Urbanisation increases contamination, compacts soil, decreases fertility, and interferes with drainage. City soils become weaker and less productive due to improper land use, chemicals, and construction waste. In order to restore soil quality and guarantee healthier gardens, green areas, and urban agriculture systems, sustainable urban planning is crucial.
