The Raman Effect: National Science Day and its significance

The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) observes February 28 as National Science Day every year
The day marks the anniversary of CV Raman’s discovery of the phenomenon he would christen the Raman Effect
According to the Raman Effect, light particles scatter when they pass through a medium made of molecules, thus changing its wavelength
The NCSTC first observed the National Science Day on February 28, 1987
The theme of National Science Day this year is Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat
To celebrate the event, the Government of India conducted a ceremony at the Plenary Hall of the Vigyan Bhavan
Schools, colleges, universities and other academic, scientific, technical, medical and research institutions also honoured Dr CV Raman’s contributions to science by celebrating National Science Day
