Odisha and West Bengal are likely to face the wrath of a full-blown storm forming over a low-pressure area on the Bay of Bengal
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a cyclonic storm would hit the shores of West Bengal and Odisha this week
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area would form over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, and travel north-westwards. The low pressure is likely to intensify into a depression on October 22 and form a cyclonic storm on October 23.
The Meteorological Department predicts heavy rainfall of up to 30 cm in several parts of Odisha from October 23
IMD further warned that the winds would reach the Odisha-West Bengal coast at a speed of 60 kmph on October 23, and then increase to 100-120 kmph by October 24-25
Furthermore, fishermen in Odisha and West Bengal were advised to return to the shore by today, October 21 and not to venture into the sea between October 23 and October 25
Even though the cyclone’s exact location remains unknown, IMD Weather Models predict that it will make landfall at Puri.
