Today, July 9, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a “red alert” for Mumbai and Pune. Schools and colleges in both cities were closed for the day.
According to the IMD, this is the second-highest rainfall recorded for July in the last 15 years.
In Goa too, schools were shut down yesterday after 80 tourists were stuck in the Pali waterfall after water levels rose to dangerous levels.
The IMD predicts more rainfall in the country in the next five days.
According to Dr Naresh Kumar, a scientist at IMD, the rainfall has reached an “active phase”
Several states, like Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Goa, Maharashtra, Telangana, and others are expected to see widespread rainfall.
A red alert was also issued for Arunachal Pradesh. Stay cautious and stay safe. Don't venture out unless you absolutely need to!
