Leadership is a vital aspect of the employment scenario in the corporate and business world. The candidates who step into the corporate world or want to stay there for a reasonable period of time will have to be accustomed to the art of exhibiting their leadership skills which will determine their success. Leadership skills are not only confined and applicable to the corporate world, but at almost every placement opportunity.

Every person has a fair and equal chance to become a leader or assume a leadership position in their appropriate job environment. Some who are able to realise that they have the required qualities and skills to demonstrate their leadership skill eventually become good and effective leaders and professionals. But for the rest who have the skills hidden within them, skills that even they cannot figure out and express in the right manner are not able to be successful and enhance their career.

The youth can make use of the following aspects to identify their leadership qualities:

Listening and observing: A good leader listens to the team and uses their observation skills to connect more meaningfully with the team. Observation will be silent, yet much understanding can be obtained with the use of this skill.

Effective body language: A leader is someone who looks into the eyes of a person and speaks. They must reflect confidence with a strong and straight posture with straight shoulders and pleasant body language.

Goals and vision: People would prefer to accept a person as a leader if they could transfer their goals and vision in a worthy manner to them. In fact, a powerful vision and strong personal value system automatically attract others.

Clarity in communication: Leadership to a great extent is influenced by a person’s level of communication. The leader is always crisp, clear and effective in their communication, without any confusion.

Team management: When diverse persons come together, it always calls for an effective interpersonal relationship skill and a person to take the initiative to lead the team towards accomplishing common goals.

Approachable and reliable: A leader should be approachable without any fuss or obstacles. A leader will only be respected if they are reliable and can be trusted. Trust is something that a leader has to display in their personality in a strong and positive manner.

Event and time managers: A leader is someone who can get things organised in a smooth and orderly manner. A taskmaster kind of nature is also expected of them. More importantly, a leader must also be able to get work done by their team within a stipulated time frame.

It is time that the youth orient themselves to the task of unleashing their talents as a leader, which is easily possible if they are able to awaken the leadership skills that are lying dormant within them.
