With the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) yet to announce recommendations to implement the Seventh Pay Commission report, teachers of engineering and polytechnic colleges are still being paid old salaries, although their counterparts in universities and arts and science colleges are getting the revised salaries.

The AICTE has submitted the recommendation to the Centre, which has to pass it, said its chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe. This was done over a year ago and the council has been following it up continuously, he added. “The Seventh Pay Commission report was implemented in all universities, following the UGC’s recommendation.

But the AICTE is yet to issue its recommendation for salary revision for institutions under it. Only after that will the State accept it and start paying revised salary,” said an Anna University faculty member. Though the UGC’s revised scales were generally implemented with effect from January 1, 2016, in Tamil Nadu, the new salaries were made effective only from October 1, 2017.
