In a shocker right after International Women's Day, a first-year B.Com student of a Chennai Engineering College was stabbed to death outside her college on Friday afternoon. Identified as M Ashvini (19), the victim was stabbed while she was on her way home by the accused, who was out on bail at the time of the crime. The assailant has been arrested and taken into custody.
The accused, Alagesan allegedly stabbed M Asvini while she was walking on Loganathan Street, 100 metres away from her college. Both the accused and the victim are reportedly residents of Maduruvoyal, Chennai. Alagesan, who has a criminal case already registered against him was reportedly out on bail when the attack took place.
Ashvini was rushed to the hospital by locals but was declared brought dead. Alagesan was caught by bystanders who then handed him over to the police. He is said to be associated with a mineral water business.
