School buses across Bengaluru as well as private vehicles that ferry schoolchildren are now under the eye of the Transport Department as a special squad has been formed to check violations by these vehicles, the department said on Wednesday.

The squad, which undertook checking drives in the past few days, has booked cases against 150 school buses and private vehicles, and also seized 26 vehicles till date across the city. "These drives will continue in the coming days and we are trying to ensure that schoolchildren are being ferried in a safe manner," a senior official said.

Just last week, an inebriated driver of a school bus rammed the vehicle into a BMTC bus. Fortunately, no children were in the bus at the time. In the past six months, several cases of drunk drivers being involved in accidents have been reported. The Bengaluru Traffic Police also held several special drives to nab offenders.
