Hundreds of students across Bengaluru wrote JEE (Main) 2018 offline paper, the entrance exam for engineering and architecture, here on Sunday. In engineering, students found the Physics paper tough and the Mathematics paper lengthy.
Akshay S from Deeksha Centre For Learning said he chose to give the exam offline as the online exam almost clashed with the Karnataka CET. "I felt the paper was a bit tougher than last year. What took me by surprise was the Mathematics paper that was lengthier than the previous year. Physics was really easy compared to last year," he added. Sudarshan H V, a student of BASE, Bengaluru said the paper was similar to JEE 2016 and found the Mathematics section lengthy.
As per FIITJEE expert Ramesh Batlish, no errors were reported from students. He said overall, the difficulty levels of the Physics and Mathematics papers were medium, while that of the Chemistry paper was easy. "As compared to last year, the paper was relatively tougher as per students. The expected cut-off could be around 90 out of 360 marks in Paper-1 of JEE Main 2018 for the general category," he said.
According to Dr Sridhar G, MD of Deeksha Centre For Learning, there was an error in one of the questions in Physics as none of the options matched the correct answer. He too, pinpointed Mathematics as being the tough part of the exam. "The Mathematics paper was significantly tougher than the other two subjects and was lengthy," he said. Sarith Nair, General Manager of T.I.M.E. Bengaluru, said several students found Mathematics lengthy because many solutions involved lengthy calculations.
The top 2,24,000 candidates of this exam will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced on 20 May, 2018 to vie for one of around 11,000 seats in one of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
